Turkey Creek Dam Blocking Endangered Darter to be Removed by Action Environmental

The Freshwater Land Trust will remove a nearly century-old dam on Turkey Creek in a bid to improve habitat for the endangered vermilion darter, the trust and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced today.

The trust and Wildlife Service let bids for the project, and Action Environmental will handle the removal of the dam. The company will work “at a significant discount” because of the importance of the project and the company’s relationship with the trust, said company vice president John Milledge.
