Project Challenge

A manufacturer contacted Action Environmental to quote an above ground storage tank (AST) removal project. They needed several storage tanks removed from within an active tank farm. The active tanks stored flammable solvents used in the client's manufacturing process. Rigging and lifting the tanks from within the active tank farm would be challenging since hot work was not permitted in the active tank farm.

Project Solution

The manufacturing client engaged Action Environmental to perform the removal of the above ground storage tanks.

The AST removal project included the following steps:

  • Removed ladders, catwalks and electrical conduit to safely rig, lift and load the tanks.
  • Rigging, lifting and loading of one (1) 30,000-gallon vertical above ground storage tank, one (1) 12,500-gallon vertical above ground storage tank and two (2) 11,500-gallon vertical above ground storage tanks from within an active tank farm.
  • Loaded tanks onto tractor-trailers and returned the tanks to Action Environmental’s Hanceville, Alabama facility for final decommissioning.
  • Sale of the scrap metal. Proceeds from the sale of the scrap metal were applied to the cost of the project.
